Support Environmental Microbiology Research

Introduction:
Greetings, dear friends and supporters! My name is Kevin Yonathan, and I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for assistance as I embark on the final leg of my PhD journey in environmental microbiology.

The Journey So Far:
Originally from Indonesia, I began my PhD journey in Sydney, Australia, in 2019 with a deep passion for understanding the intricate interplay between nanoparticle pollution and its impact on antibiotic resistance and ecological processes. My goal has always been to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet.

Overcoming Challenges:
My path has been marked by both academic excellence and personal challenges. I was fortunate to receive sponsorship for both tuition fees and living expenses. However, the global COVID-19 pandemic forced me to defer my research temporarily. During this time, I also faced a serious chronic medical condition (I am still very private about my diagnosis, but feel free to reach out to find out more) that required my full attention and led to a one-year leave of absence from my studies.

Current Situation:
As an international student, my scholarship from the university has now concluded, and I find myself enrolled as a full-paying student. This means that I am faced with tuition fees of approximately AU$ 28,000 for my last semester. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to completing my PhD and finishing my thesis, which I intend to submit in April 2024.

The Impact of Your Support:
By donating to my campaign, you are not only helping me reach my educational goals but also contributing to the preservation of our environment. My research in environmental microbiology is focused on understanding and mitigating the effects of nanoparticle pollution on antibiotic resistance and ecological processes.

Accomplishments and Recognition:
I am proud to share that my dedication to research has yielded significant achievements. I have published a review article in a high-impact-factor scientific journal, a testament to the quality and importance of my work. I have also had the privilege of presenting my research at prestigious conferences, such as the European Molecular Biology Laboratory PhD symposium in Heidelberg, Germany, where I received an award for the second-best PhD talk. Additionally, I was honoured to be recognized with the Jeff Powell Prize for the best poster presentation at the JAMS10 Symposium.
Moreover, I am thrilled to share that I was selected as a mentee in the Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS). IMNIS is a fantastic program that connects PhD students with industry professionals in STEM fields, providing valuable mentorship and guidance that enhances our research and career prospects.

Your Role in My Journey:
Your support will be instrumental in helping me surmount these financial obstacles and complete my PhD journey successfully. With your assistance, I can continue my research and contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future for our planet.

Closing Thoughts:
I am deeply grateful for your consideration and support. Together, we can make a difference not only in my life but also in our shared commitment to the environment. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign with your network. Your generosity and faith in my work drive me toward academic excellence and environmental stewardship.

Thank you from the depths of my heart for being a vital part of my PhD journey and the quest for a healthier planet.
