Kevin Standing Tall with a service dog

Being Kevin’s mother,  I have had the privilege of have a front row seat to miracles everyday as we have been on this journey. Kevin in a matter of a week went from being a 3 sport high school athlete to being diagnosed with pontine glioma and having a brain hemorrhage and now wheelchair bound at the age of 16.

For 13 years, Kevin faces each day with laughter and never backs down from a challenge. Always looking for ways to help Kevin grow in his independence, we came across a wheelchair that will transition into a standing wheelchair. He will be able to roll around being eye level with his peers. Standing tall will help him with pressure sores, circulation, breathing and mental health to mention a few. The day we went to see a demonstration of the chair had me in tears. It was like seeing him take his first steps. The joy in his eyes lit up the place. Kev continues to go to therapy 13 years out to gain strength and always hoping for the possibility of walking even a few steps on his own. Please help give kevin the chance to stand tall in his Permobil chair, he needs $10042 the amount of what insurance doesn’t cover. 

Kevin’s love of sports didn’t die with his ability to walk. He is currently helping coach basketball at his former high school after he accomplished earning a degree from University of Kentucky while being a student manager of the men’s basketball team. During his time at UK, Kevin was able to get a service dog, Aria. 2 days before Christmas, Aria, passed away unexpectedly from cancer. Devastating to say the least. Aria helped with picking up dropped items, opening doors, turning on lights and so much more. Aria also opened other people up to speak to Kevin especially kids and ladies. Kevin will get another service dog but this will cost him around 3,000 once the dog is available.

As a family we have stood by each others side along the way with the support of many. We are at a point that we ask for your help with making this a reality.
