Kerry's hearing journey !

Donation protected

Hi my name is Kerry and my journey began awhile ago . I have not been able to hear out of my left ear for several years but in the last 18 months my life has changed in many ways . I had my first surgery on Feb 2020 what they thought was going to be a simple cholesteatoma, which is a abnormal collection of skin cells deep inside your ear was not. I had my hearing bones removed due to the tumor and then I found out a week later after pathology came back that it actually was a meningioma , a brain tumor and thankfully benign . After being sent down to Farmington Hills to see a wonderful Neuro surgeon and a amazing Ear surgeon I found out that I had 2 more tumors. So in September of 2020 I underwent another surgery. This time it was several hours and my head was cut open to remove the 2nd tumor. When I woke up the next day I had 48 staples in my head and looked like someone had smacked me around a bit. My face was swollen and bruised. On the good side of this my wonderful doctors had tag teamed together for this surgery and we hoped for the best that they were successful with removing most of the 2nd tumor. Unfortunately during this surgery was also to try and correct my hearing , but it was unsuccessful. Currently I have had to have MRI's every 6 months to watch the remaining tumor and make sure there is no new regrowth of the ones that have been taken out. Now on to May 2021 another surgery to try and correct my hearing . This one also has been unsuccessful. After a hearing test it has been found that my hearing is no better than before this last surgery even with a ear tube, and new prosthetic hearing bones. My ear drum is partially collapsed and will not be able to be fixed. My surgery journey to try and fix my lost hearing is over and I have developed a conductive hearing loss to my left ear that is not repairable by surgery. The only option I have is a Baha , which is Bone-anchored hearing system. I have had 4 appeals and 4 denials with my insurance company. The Baha device runs upwards of $8000, plus the surgery which I am not even sure the insurance will pay for.I the past 18 months of this journey I have had over $300,000 in medical bills in which several thousand dollars is out of pocket. I had a simulation with the Baha device last week and as soon as she had placed it and turned it on I cried like a baby because for the first time in years I could hear . It was truly amazing !!! These past 18 months has been such a roller coaster ride with all of this going on and covid and also during this I have lost one of my fur babies that was by my side every day. My boxer Izabella, she actually passed 2 days after I had come home from my big surgery in September. Because of the surgery and severity I was unable to be with her at the emergency center when she took her last breath, and this broke my heart and I miss her every day. I am scheduled for Baha surgery on November 1 st 2021 . I am thankful for the wonderful support I have especially from my son Brandon, my daughter Ashley and son in law Sam. All my family , friends and amazing co workers they help make the dark days a little better. I thank you for reading my story and any help that anyone can give will be appreciated and used for my Baha journey. Thank you and I appreciate and love you all. Also just found out it will be an addition $1200 for the doctors portion along with needing a new furnace before the weather gets cold. Thanks again
