My name is Krystel and I’m reaching out on behalf of my father Kerman Iriarte, and all of our family to help us save his life. He is currently battling with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. This rare form of malignant brain cancer is not only aggressive but it is also incurable. Fortunately, with the proper treatment, his life could be greatly prolonged.

On Friday, November 10th, my dad climbed up on a ladder to change a lightbulb in the bathroom. He lost his balance and fell backwards hitting his neck and back on the wall. Complaining of a constant headache and neck pain, he spent the next 2 days in bed while taking OTC pain relievers, icing his neck and wearing a neck brace to help him sleep.
However, on early Monday the pain was so unbearable that he had to be taken to the ER. After blood work, a CT scan and an MRI were done, doctors informed us that he had a brain tumor rapidly growing on the right side of his frontal lobe.

On November 14, after a consult with neurosurgeon Dr. Brent C. Morgan at Medical Center of McKinney, Texas; Kerman had surgery to resect the tumor. However, since this type of tumor grows into the normal brain tissue; its complete removal is not possible. He is now in need of additional palliative treatment such as radiation and chemotherapy, in order to suppress the remaining cancer cells present and to slow down the progression of further growth as the tumor regenerates.

Kerman is 55 years old and has always been a very happy, young at heart, active and healthy person who loves and takes care of his family above all. He is humble, kind, and a caring individual who warms the world and everyone he meets. We wouldn’t be where we are and could’ve not accomplished as much as we have without him in our life.
As you can imagine, this has been a life-altering change not only on him but also on my mom, my younger siblings, our closest family members and I. Nevertheless, in the midst of all these hard moments and bad news, we are lucky and grateful for the fall who sent him to the hospital that saved his life and gave him a second chance. We have faith in God and remain nothing less than positive and optimistic that we will beat this together as a family with a bright, healthy and happy long future ahead of us.

My father will be out of work indefinitely. Likewise, my mother will have to stop working soon to take care of him during this hard and time-consuming treatment. We are reaching out in hope that you will consider helping us a little with a donation of any size. All donations and funds collected by me, Krystel Iriarte, will be directly deposited in an a bank account created for the only beneficiary of this campaign, Kerman Iriarte. They will be used to help cover all related medical treatment and support that is not covered by insurance. Donations will also assist in covering basic necessities and living expenses.

Hola, soy Krystel y en nombre de mi papá, Kerman Iriarte, y de toda nuestra familia he creado ésta página con el fin de recaudar fondos para ayudar a salvarle la vida. Actualmente está combatiendo con el Glioblastoma multiforme grado 4. Este es el tumor más agresivo y maligno de todos los tumores cerebrales que existen y por su crecimiento descontrolado es incurable. Afortunadamente, con el tratamiento correcto para ésta rara forma de cancer cerebral, la vida puede ser prolongada por mucho tiempo.
El Viernes 10 de Noviembre, mi papá se subió a una escalera para cambiar un bombillo en el baño. Perdiendo el equilibrio, se cayó hacia atrás golpeándose el cuello y la espalda contra la pared. Después de quejarse de un constante dolor de cabeza y dolor de cuello, pasó los siguientes 2 días en cama mientras tomaba analgésicos para calmar el dolor, colocándose compresas de hielo en el cuello y usando un collarín ortopédico para ayudarlo a dormir.
Sin embargo, en la madrugada del Lunes, el dolor era tan fuerte e insoportable que tuvo que ser llevado a emergencia. Después de realizar análisis de sangre, una tomografía computarizada y una resonancia magnética, los médicos nos informaron que tenía un tumor cerebral que crecía rápidamente en el lado derecho de su lóbulo frontal.
El Martes 14 de Noviembre, después de consultar con el neurocirujano Dr. Brent C. Morgan en el Centro Médico de McKinney, Texas; Kerman entró al quirófano para extraer dicho tumor. A pesar de ello, dado a que este tipo de tumor crece en las áreas sanas del tejido cerebral; su eliminación completa no fue ni es posible. Actualmente, mi papá requiere de tratamientos paliativos adicionales, como lo son la radiación y la quimioterapia, para poder así suprimir las células cancerosas restantes y retrasar el crecimiento descontrolado de dichas células que causarán la regeneración del tumor.
Kerman tiene 55 años y siempre ha sido una persona muy feliz, joven de corazón, activa y saludable que ama y cuida a su familia por encima de todo. Es humilde, amable, bondadoso e inspira confianza y lealtad a todos los que lo conocen. Honestamente, no estaríamos adonde estamos y no podríamos haber logrado tanto como lo hemos hecho sin su presencia en nuestras vidas.
Como se podrán imaginar, éste ha sido un cambio drástico en la vida no sólo de él, sino también en la de mi mamá, mis hermanos menores, nuestros familiares más cercanos y en la mía. No obstante, en medio de estos momentos difíciles y de las malas noticias recibidas, corrimos con una gran suerte y estamos profundamente agradecidos con Dios por la caída que no sólo le salvó la vida sino que le dió otra oportunidad para estar en este mundo. Tenemos Fé en Dios y seguimos muy positivos y optimistas de que unidos en familia lograremos vencer éste obstáculo y que juntos tendremos un futuro largo, exitoso, saludable y feliz.
Lamentablemente mi papá no podrá volver a trabajar por un tiempo indefinido. De la misma manera, mi mamá eventualmente tendrá que dejar de trabajar para cuidarlo durante el tratamiento largo y duro al que tendrá que ser sometido. Por dicha razón, esperamos su benevolencia y nos ayuden con cualquier donación monetaria por muy pequeña que ésta sea.
Todas las donaciones y fondos recaudados por mi, Krystel Iriarte, serán directamente depositados en una cuenta bancaria sólo para el beneficio de Kerman Iriarte. Más adelante serán utilizados para ayudar a cubrir los gastos del tratamiento médico que no estén cubiertos por el seguro médico, así como también las necesidades básicas y los gastos de subsistencia.
