Look into these beautiful eyes!
This is my grandson Luke. He has recently been diagnosed with Keratoconus. Keratoconus (KC) is a degenerative disease of the eye which results in progressive thinning of the cornea and usually both eyes are affected. Severe cases, without treatment, will take his sight.
Let me tell you a little about Luke. Luke is 30 years old (young) and has always been a kind and generous gentleman. Always willing to help his family and friends. Always knowing what was important in life. He loves his momma and, of course, his gramma, along with so-may others. After years of planning, hard work, determination, and preparation, he saw a dream come true this year. He and his best-buds opened Soggy Bottom Brewery in Dunedin, FL. Through the trials of starting a new-small business, they never gave up. Always their eyes on the dream!
The current progression of Keratoconus in Luke’s right eye is severe. Luke is only able to discern shapes and shadows. The disease has also migrated to his left eye. Both eyes require surgery. The surgery will not correct his vision but it will stop the progression to blindness and loss of his eyes. “As this procedure is new, it's not covered under insurance" (see attachment). The expense of the procedure (for both eyes) could be up to and possibly exceed $8,000.
Though it is difficult for Luke and his mom to ask for help, they understand that Luke’s sight is more important than pride. They are reaching out to you for your helpful donations to reduce the financial impact to Luke and his mother. Please help us keep Luke’s sight and his eyes bright and beautiful.
