Pictures of Me
I am Lawren. I am a nursing student on my way to become an Anesthesiologist, BUT, there is a small 'hiccup' in my lifelong dream that’s hindering me from activities of daily living (ADL's). Playing with my daughter, helping her with her schooling, grocery shopping, driving, sleeping, to name a few are very difficulty when your eyesight is compromised.

-Edit May 7, 2021 I NO LONGER NEED SCLERAL LENSES THANK YOU TO THE DOCTORS AT PHILADELPHIA EYE ASSOCIATES IN SOUTH PHILLY FOR SETTING ME UP FOR FREE LENSES WITH YOUR DONATIONS! The price will reflect accordingly-

KERATOCONUS {ker-uh-toh-koh-nus} is a RARE eye disease that effects less than 200,000 Americans. [source: mayo clinic]. The cornea structure of the eye is the affected area . Instead of the cornea having a round baseball shape, the muscles are weakened causing it to droop in a oval football shape. This will then impede  light from coming in and out of the eye correctly causing blurry, double vision and light sensitivity. There are 3 stages to the deteriorating disease. I was diagnosed 5 years ago  and am currently in between the mid and mid-late stages.

I started this page to help me with costs of the crosslinking procedure in both eyes and scleral contact lens.

With this procedure and these specific contact lens my eyesight will be restored to approx. 20/20 vision in both eyes which will give me back a normal life for myself and my 7 year old little girl.

It is very costly and in the state of Pennsylvania there is no health insurance coverage for the crosslinking procedure at ALL!

I started wearing glasses in the 6th grade, I could never forget that day. I had my first migraine headache, complete with aura, nausea, and vomiting. It was the perfect concoction for an embarrassing middle schooler's day! I got yearly migraines for the next 8 years each time worsening my vision. Simply put one day I just couldn't see the infamous random letter (refraction) test in the opticians office any longer. This then lead up to my 6 year search for the perfect ophthalmologist. Now that I've met the person that can help and the process that will help, I don’t want resources to be the only thing standing in my way! Any amount donated will get me closer to my goal  and is greatly appreciated!!!
