Countless students, student teachers, co-workers, and colleagues have been inspired by Mary Beth Kepper. Her influence as a dance educator, mentor, and friend is reknowned. The years I spent teaching with Mary Beth filled my heart with joy and wonder, and I always delight in seeing how many others she has also touched in her amazing career.
Recently, Mary Beth and I got to spend some time together, and she excitedly shared with me a treasured dream that she has for herself and Katie. Next summer, 2016, Mary Beth has the honor and privilege of being invited to sing with her church's choir, St. John's UMC, and also joining the larger choir, Grammy Award Winning Conspirare, on a performance tour in Italy. Much to her delight, and according to the tour itinerary, their performances will culminate in Rome to sing at St. Peter's Basilica for High Mass! Although this performance tour is the purpose for the rest of the choir participants, Mary Beth has an additional, personal purpose in mind. Many of you know that Mary Beth's beloved, late mother was Italian, a war bride. Mary Beth has been dreaming of returning to Italy for several years to visit her only living relatives, and to now, introduce Katie to HER only relatives as well. Attending this trip would allow the Keppers' fondest dreams come true!
If you have ever wondered how you could thank Ms. Kepper in a meaningful way for how she has touched your life-this is it! I wanted to set up this account for her because, other than adopting Katy, I have never seen Mary Beth desire something so strongly. When we spoke about possible obstacles to achieving this dream, the Keppers were skeptical about being able to afford this trip.
Professionally, Mary Beth has been someone who has inspired me greatly, but frankly, her brave, selfless act of adopting a child later in life, and raising her as a single Mom on a teacher's salary (now retired teacher!) is probably one of the most courageous things I have ever witnessed. Thankfully, Mary Beth gave her consent to allow me to set up this Go Fund Me account so that others could also have the privilege of joining with me in saying, "Bravo!" and "Thank you!"
So, will you join me in helping the Keppers go to Italy?
