Kenzi, 11, Fearless Fight, Louisiana ICU Burn Unit

Donation protected
Late Saturday night, April 3rd, at 12:12 am, I got word, fire gutted a main bedroom, in the home of Keith, a 61 year old,  United States Disabled Veteran. This accidental fire seriously injured, his granddaughter, 11 year old Kenzi, with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 40 percent of her body. Kenzi was urgently care-flighted directly from the family home, to a burn unit, over 80 miles away. Kasey, 31, Kenzi's mother, had to make the agonizing, long drive, alone, to the hospital to be with her daughter. All Kasey knew, were the words she was given by the EMT's, "they had to get her to an ICU burn center immediately".  Immediately, is 84 miles away. Kasey, a kind, caring, hard working, single mom, recently moved back home, to help her father. Kasey's children, Kenzi 11, and Ayen 9, lovingly call their grandfather, "Paw Paw".  Keith,  an American Veteran, is wheelchair bound, and needs his  daughters help.  Kasey is unable to work at her job, because she has been at the ICU burn unit, and has not left her daughter's side.  Ayen, Kenzi's brother, is being cared for by a close family member, away from the severe fire damage. Keith, our Vet, is living in the fire damaged home,  without power, without Kasey's help. Doctors are advising  Kasey,  Kenzi will be in, the Intensive Care unit, ICU, the burn unit, for a minimum, of a month, likely longer.

The tragedy of this story continues, a USA Veteran had his homeowners insurance taken from him, cancelled, because of recent hurricane activity, in South West, Louisiana. The area of the family home was hit twice, this past Fall of 2020 . First, Hurricane Laura, a deadly category 4, and again a month later by Hurricane Delta. Delta was the record tying 4th storm to strike Louisiana in 2020. The family has lived in this area for generations. The fire that seriously injured Keith's granddaughter, gutted an entire room, needs full replacement of sheet rock, electrical, plus the floor, must be repaired. All the clothing in this room has smoke damage. This is the home where granddaughter, Kenzi will be returning to, for her long term recovery.

The family is in dire need of prayer, and financial help. Please pray for them, use their names, Kasey, Keith, Kenzi, and Ayen, of South West Louisiana. Anyone who can set up prayer chains for this family, please do, and let us know in the comments. Post your prayers, well wishes, and any uplifting messages, here on the Go Fund Me Web site.

All financial donations will be used to cover Kenzi's medical and rehab costs, that her medical insurance doesn't cover. Co pays,  physical therapy, and / or burn injury supplies for home.  And, to the repair fire and water damage to the family home.  For severe fire damage, homeowners typically pay a national average of $15,481, for a full repair. Exact cost will depend on factors, extent of damage. In this case the room is fully fire gutted, with water damage. Costs in water cleanup, chemical repair from extinguishers, soot removal, and smoke damage restoration.

My name is Julie Minear Jones,  63, Administrator, for this Go Fund Me. I am here serving the family in any capacity I can, what ever they ask of me. I am not local to the family, I live in North Texas, the Dallas metro.  I will update this Go Fund me, and relay information on the status of Kenzi's injuries, her hospitalization, and the status of their home repairs.  I have known the family, on  Kenzi's,  mother's side, for sixty years. I grew up with her grand mother Mary [RIP], and her mother's sisters, Debbie and Louise. We remain close to this day, this is why I am involved. This, and I was called to step up by the Lord.  I met Keith, Kenzi's grandfather, at the US Naval base, at Treasure Island, in San Francisco, in the late 1970's, when he was a young man. This is where Keith met, Kenzi's grandmother, Mary. I was there the night they met.  I knew Kenzi's great grand mother, Evelyn, when I was growing up too. These are good people, Folk who love God, family, and who choose daily, to get back up and fight again.  I believe this fighting spirit, was born of tragedy. Tragedy that began,  two generations before Kasey was born. I've seen how her Aunts, my best life long friends, fight for life, for their children, for their family. I have been a witness since the beginning of it all. Tragedy that still affects the living generations now. This family has known suffering. Right now almighty God holds them together.  Kasey, Kenzi, Ayen, and Keith, need our help. They need us to share and ask others for help, anyone who can.  These folk work hard to do the right thing by all, in their lives. For this good Christian family, I make these words my prayer, that our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ, will move the spirit upon ALL who come across this story, ---to act.

I pray that Kenzi will fully recover from her severe burns, and be able to return to her family home, fully repaired, when discharged from the ICU Burn unit. In Jesus name, I pray Amen.
