Pregnant mothers-to-be in Kenya need your help to access 1000 affordable ultrasounds!
For too many pregnant women in Kenya, affordable ultrasounds and basic prenatal care are financially out of reach. RMH was founded in 2018 to disrupt the existing health system inequality. RMH uses a local, value based model instead: hire local nurses, midwives, and doctors to service local mothers at an affordable $15 per ultrasound price.
For 85% of these mothers-to-be, it is their first ever ultrasound. We need your help to enable many more Kenyan mothers to access affordable ultrasounds from this nurse-midwife led local firm. The ReaMedica Health model is based on a belief that local entrepreneurship creates outsized impact. We started thinking about solutions with the world's most potent yet vital medical caregivers, namely nurses and midwives. Globally, nurses account for over 70% of the healthcare workforce and deliver upwards of 90% of all health services. Africa has the greatest unmet need for ultrasounds, and in partnership with the leading NGO in Kenya for nurses, National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK, visit www.nnak.or.ke), ReaMedica Health launched mobile ultrasound services to mothers who are not able to access pregnancy ultrasound scans nor adequate prenatal care, staffed 100% locally.
The entire $150,000 GoFundMe will go directly to expanding scanning services at four more mobile sites in Kenya to enable 1,000 more ultrasounds per month (each requires a pickup truck, Philips portable ultrasound machine and tablet, computer, and printers (thermal and standard). Each team is staffed with two local nurses, administrator and driver. The cost can be reduced to $8-10 per ultrasound in the long run.
