Kent's Support & Surgery Fund

I'm sick. I've been sick for 14 years and my condition has gotten to the point where I only have about two good weeks every month. I'm also Queer, Trans, Assigned Female at Birth, and Latinx. This should have nothing to do with my healthcare, but we see the world around us right now and know systemic racism in healthcare is real. We know discrimination is real, and these four pieces of my identity have placed realistic barriers to getting the surgery I need to have my life back. I've spent the last decade fighting with and for my communities, and now, more than ever, I need my communities to help fight for me. 

On July 7th I will go under the knife to have my entire reproductive system removed.  The level of disease inside me frightened my doctor enough to make her point out that there is no other option than surgery if I want the quality of life I deserve and need to be able to hold down a job and maintain relationships with my friends and chosen family. It is also the only solution which will allows me to show up for and  with my communities more consistently. 

Without telling you my life story, I'll say plainly that I lost my job to COVID-19. This is the story for most, and like most people, despite my best efforts to land unemployment or a work from home job, I still have no real means of income available to me. Freelancing has brought in a small, nominal amount because good friends have given me one or two side gigs over the last few months, but it is not enough. Not by a long shot. While my partner works full-time helping this community, her salary is not enough to cover both of us until August, and she will not be getting a raise because of COVID-19. 

I need monetary assistance to cover us until July 7th and to carry us through the 6-8 week recovery period. I'm not good at asking help for myself, but this is where I am. I need to ask for help, and I hope beyond hope that this beautiful community I am part of will consider helping me and my family as I get on the road to recovery.

I will not stop fighting for unemployment or looking for a job. I'm hoping recovery will be shorter than what I was told, but the reality of it is I need help and while this isn't the best time to need help, I'm hoping support will come through.  Thank you so much in advance for anything you can give.
