My wife and I have been "making it" on Social Security and my retirement account that made it possible for me to "sheath" my surgeon's scalpel to devote my healing skills to guiding H.O.P.E. Groups for folks with serious health issues looking to find meaning,value and purpose in their lives. I was on the threshold of this as a full-time career this year when my right hip broke making a trip to my old hospital to have a new alloy metal ball put in the healthy old socket. Then I had to have cataracts replaced when it was clear that I would make it through, living to help people get on with their lives. When the dust had settled, we had spent $2,485.50 in out-of-pocket medical costs which wiped out our cash reserves.
