Kenny Beats Cancer

Hey all. For the past several months our friend, and Whole Foods rockstar, Kenny Gillenwaters, has been going through intense discomfort, exhaustion, and extreme weightloss resulting in numerous trips to doctors and the ER without a concrete diagnosis. This week, doctors finally identified that Kenny has cancer: a high grade intestinal lymphoma. On Tuesday (Jan 23rd) Kenny was admitted to Florida Hospital for immediate, intensive chemotherapy. He will be undergoing initial treatments as an in-patient for the next ten days and could require months of additional treatments. Recovery will be long and slow.

If you know Kenny, you know that he's resilient and stubborn - he's going to be fighting this thing with everything he's got. However, he's gonna need our help. Already Kenny has had to undergo tests knowing that they are not covered by the Whole Foods healthcare plan. Long term survivability of this type of cancer is dependent on fast, aggressive action so stopping to evaluate whether each doctor-recommended test/treatment is covered is just not feasible. United Healthcare also only covers a portion of the total cost of his doctors visits and neccessary care. Additionally, Kenny does not have short term disabilty coverage and has used a significant portion of the paid time off available to him in dealing with his symptoms to date. With expensive medical bills looming, Kenny is also worried about maintaining his rent payments and paying for essentials while he's unable to work.
