Kenneth Hugill, a 83 years old, wept outside court after he was put through 16 months of torment for defending himself and his wife on his Yorkshire farm at 2am on November 2015.
The jury took just 24 minutes to clear Kenneth Hugill, 83, of inflicting grievous bodily harm by shooting the invader in the right foot with a shotgun.
Kenneth, who has had two hip replacements and a heart-bypass operation thanked jurors as they left the court room after clearing him.
His son has said: “The family have been through an ordeal for the last 16 months – anxiety and sleepless nights. The justice system has worked. We are very happy with the result... But the legal bill will be more than £30,000. It hits us very, very hard."
