Kenneth Everett Nairn medical fund

Family and friends,

I'm Allyson Nairn Flanagan, and it is with a heavy heart that I'm reaching out for help for my dad, Kenneth Everett Nairn. Our world was turned upside down in May 2020 when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-small Cell Lung cancer, with metastasis to the brain. Since the beginning of this journey, he has fought with everything he had. He always told us, "Never be a victim", never give up and always push forward. He was always the one I went to for advice or support and he has been my rock. It's now time for me to return the favor. Through it all, he has kept a positive outlook and his good-hearted nature but the battle has been really hard on him physically. We have tried every option including brain surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation to the chest as well as gamma knife radiation and full brain radiation. While it has been a temporary stall to cancer's overall growth, it will be a lifelong disease he will have to manage. The conventional treatment left him weak and vulnerable, and in August 2022 he fell very ill with encephalitis caused by a once-dormant virus in his body. While receiving IV therapy of antibiotics at the hospital, a pulmonary embolism was found as well. At discharge, we decided he would move in with me and my family so I could give him the extra care he required. He was in a very weakened state, needing assistance eating and walking. After 2 months of physical therapy and a lot of TLC and prayer, he has made progress in leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, he is left with many mental challenges and memory loss. This fundraiser is to go towards medical bills, continued medical care, transportation fees and living expenses. In addition, alternative treatments and quality nutrition and supplements, in hopes of ensuring the best quality of life. We are willing to do anything if it means more time with him.
