Kelseyville Elementary School Garden
Donation protected
Kelseyville Elementary School is in need! My husband and I moved to Lake County two years ago. We did not have many choices on where to send our son to Kindergarten (3 choices). We chose Kelseyville Elementary School because of its beautiful layout and its education garden. As we began to volunteer at the school regularly, we realized Kelseyville teachers, staff, students and the garden are in dire need.
Lake County ranks near the bottom in California for health and poverty. Nearly 30% of Lake County children live below the poverty level. Also, our test scores are well below the national average.
Luckily...Lake County makes up for that in small town community feeling and ranks 15th in the nation for cleanest particulate air quality (even after all of our fires)!
Instead of complaining about how bad things are in the world...I am working with the teachers and anyone who will help to make things better on a local level. These kids need to be outside, in the garden, learning how to grow food, and how to work together. There is nothing more health promoting than that! We want to improve the education from the outside in.
Mrs. Torres and Mrs. Libby have been working tirelessly, in addition to teaching summer school classes, and with their own money, to keep the garden afloat. I met with them and we devised a plan. We need an outdoor seating area for education, more artwork in the garden (created by the students) and a revamping of the greenhouse, gravel, etc.
If you believe in education, gardening, and building a healthy future generation please consider donating what you would spend on a coffee, your nails, or anything else!
Sincerely,
Dina
