Kelli's Medical Struggles

My niece, Kelli Audi Cordani, was always a bright young, full-of-life person.  She enjoyed her family, friends and pets.  She was a hard working employee.  Kelli loved going to auto races, baseball games and  numerous other activities.

Kelli's first bout with health issues started when she was diagnosed with Type II Diabeties and began taking insulin for treatment.  

Kelli suffered a heart attack and had permanent heart damage at the early age of 38.  She was treated at Memorial Hospital and had two stents inserted.  After this heart attack, Kelli was left with shortness of breath and had little physical activity.  Many hospital stays, doctor appointments and medication changes occurred over a long period of time.

In 2015 Kelli was diagnosed with FSGS, Stage 3 kidney disease and  was given high doses of prednisone which 
caused blood clots, DVT's, PE's.

At age 45, Kelli suffered congestive heart failure, renal failure and liver failure.  She was hospitalized in Springfield.   As the doctors thought this espisode was brought  on by her kidneys, and they didn't know how to treat her dangerous conditon, she was immediately referred and transported to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Upon her two week hospitalization at Barnes Hospital, after many tests on her organs and evaluations by a team of five specialists, they came to the conclusion that Kelli had congestive heart failure.  This left her heart functioning at 25-30% where it remains today.   Kelli's medications were changed many times before they found the correct treatment.  

After returning home, Kelli noticed modules under her skin.   She was experiencing a great amount of pain on the right side of her abdomen and went to see her doctor in Springfield.  She was told this growth could be a hematoma.  She was put on pain medication and sent home,  Within days, the growth had gotten bigger and was now purple, black and blue,  Kelli's doctor sent her to the hospital.  They checked on the growth,  gave her more pain medication and sent her home.   After continued excruciating pain, Kelli was told to go to ER again so her condition could be determined.

The hospital was full and there were no rooms available, so they sent Kelli home with increased pain medications.  Soon after this happened, Kelli returned to the hospital and was finally admitted.  On this visit, the doctor performed three biopsies on her adbomen to determine her condition.  The biopsies were also sent to Salt Lake City, Utah for further examination.  When the results came back, the doctor said Kelli has a rare, uncurable and very painful disease called calciphylaxis.  This is a growing, spreading disease.   Treatment for Kelli has been two visists to the hospital every week for infusions and pain medications.  This treatment is for an undetermined amount of time.  Also, this treatment does not cure the disease, but may help stop the growing and spreading process.  To date Kelli is experiencing new growth spots and had no relief from the pain.  Kelli has limited mobility.

Kelli is now seeking an appointment with the kidney specialist at Barnes Hospital for a second opinion.

Because of her complex medical issues, Kelli is no longer able to work.  Her medical expenses are ever rising.
