Keith Owens Medical & Living Fund
Don protégé
Sometimes things happen that you can’t really understand, explain or accept. On February 8th, 2017 one of those things happened to my big brother. Keith has been the father to his large Catahoula-mix Luke Duke since college. I remember the day he got him and I remember all of the times when that dog was shotgun in his truck. This dog was Keith’s best friend. On February 8th, he had to step in to break up a fight that Luke instigated with his other male dog, and this time his boy turned on him. Luke's teeth tore his lip almost entirely off, hanging by a tendon, while Keith fought to protect his other 3 babies and saw a side of Luke that no dog owner should ever have to see.
Those of you that know my brother, and even those that just follow him on Facebook, probably know him for three things: he changes lives with his music, he is a sucker for animals, and he loves with his whole heart. Keith has impacted lives through his singing, but also through connecting people to the dog or cat that change the way they see the world. This accident has resulted in more than just difficult decisions to be made for Keith, it is also resulting in mountains of medical bills- and no means to pay them. Keith is a full-time musician, playing gigs 5 nights a week (and sometimes more than one a night) and because of this incident, he is out of commission as the lead vocalist for his band for at least a month, if we’re lucky. The problem that him and his soon-to-be-Bride Haley are facing is that life doesn’t stop and the bills will continue to come. So today, we ask that you help in any way that you can. A few dollars will go further than you know, and he needs to feel the love of his community now more than ever. So even if you can’t donate, reach out to him- see what you CAN do, and share his story.
“Just an old mutt riding shotgun, getting my seats all muddy.
It just hit me she's not with me like she was this past Sunday.
Why am I pulling over on the shoulder with tears in my eyes?
It's just a dog, right?
She was just a dog, right?”
