Keep Sean Glassett in Fair Lawn

Donation protected

Sean Glassett is a success story of a little boy loved by his family and community.

I’ve known Sean Glassett from the day he was born June 28, 2002.  He was a joyous addition to a growing and loving family headed by Bob and Ellen Glassett.  This little boy would never be at loss for love, care or affection from his nuclear family or extended Radburn and Fair Lawn community family.

Sean was a big hungry baby who was happy, engaged and starting to speak and walk at one. Surprisingly, he started to withdraw and by 18 months he was unresponsive to noise and no longer speaking.  He developed health issues that masked his autism and after several medical interventions and diet corrections, he could then move forward.

From the age of 3 Sean has been in  the Fair Lawn Schools special education programs.  He started in the pre-school program, Stepping Stones (https://www.autismspeaks.org/what-autism/treatment/applied-behavior-analysis-aba).  He was allowed to move along at his own pace and moved on to a Language Based Learning Disabled Program.

Two years ago, he enrolled in the Middle School “Bridges program”.  This is an all inclusive classroom which combines vocational skills and academics so each student can learn and grow at their own pace.  The inclusive atmosphere of Fair Lawn’s special education gave Sean the opportunities to learn to speak, make friends, master academics and learn the skills necessary to hold a job when he reaches adulthood and even live on his own.

Over the past 15 years, I have watched this baby grow into a young man.  He was Bar Mitzvahed at the appropriate age and loves scouting.  Sean has been an active member of BSA Troop 53 right here in Fair Lawn participating fully in camping, hiking and all the trips every scout enjoys. He is a founding member of the newly revived Venture Crew 53 which includes both boys and girls aged 14 to 21. He is very excited about the venture crew as it not only includes scouts from his troop but several special needs children from the community. It is his goal to bring venturers of all levels and abilities together to share in the fun of scouting.

Sean has a flair for cooking and even has his own Facebook presence with Cooking with Sean.   He loves his dog, bunny, and kitties, (Rory, Flash, Felix, Oscar, River Song, Martha Jones and Gandalf, respectively) who are just as important to his emotional growth as is his family, community and special programs.

Why did I start this GoFundMe campaign?

Sean’s exceptional growth path is due to the community programs and education his residence in Fair Lawn avails.  However, that is all at risk and he needs your help.

Bob and Ellen are encountering severe financial challenges with the reality of losing their home in Fair Lawn due to short-term issues. After filing a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy,  they had initially managed to preserve their home and make progress toward being able to pay off outstanding debts and be current on all bills.  Bob was laid off from his job as of January 1st. He spent months prior and the months since looking for permanent employment so far without success.  Opportunities for consulting /contract work presented itself and so Glassett Consulting was born. While he has been working hard it takes time to get these things up and running and of course contracts must be completed in order to collect the money for services rendered often with a net 30 or 60 day turnaround.

Rentals in Fair Lawn are as expensive, if not more than the Glassett’s current monthly mortgage payment.  It’s a rare rental to find that will accept all the animal companions that make the Glassett house a home and give Sean additional emotional support.

How will the money be spent?

The Glassetts will be using all funds to pay back mortgage, taxes, utilities and debt paydown.  They also plan to use funds to pay for health care insurance for all their children and also cover themselves.

Call To Action

I started this campaign because I have so much admiration and respect for Bob and Ellen and I want to see Sean continue to grow.  He is so special.

Please help this amazing young man stay in the community that has helped him grow and continue to provide the path to reach his potential.  I am hoping 1,000 persons see a $20 donation as easy and doable to help with this campaign.

Thank you for your help and together we will keep Sean in Fair Lawn.

Much love,
