As many of you have already heard, our good friend Raphael Mbugua Murai suffered a stroke on June 6th. He had to have life-saving surgery to combat the bleeding in the brain and had been intubated in the ICU since. It was touch and go at the beginning but Ralph was making very significant leaps and bounds on his road to recovery.
He started off by showing early signs of being able to wiggle and move his toes as well as holding a thumbs up in the air when his loving wife Holly would play him the many voice notes that you all sent him. He went on to get extubated and was even sitting up, opening his eyes and drinking water and such. The plan was to transfer him to a rehab facility the week of June 22nd to begin working on physical therapy.
Approximately two weeks after the initial surgery, Ralphy developed a fever which his doctors determined to be the result of infections in sections of his skull and brain which warranted another surgery. Ralphy underwent that second procedure on June 22nd and thereafter, he was once again intubated and sedated. Being the fighter he is, he progressed enough within a day or so, that they were able to take him off it and allow him to begin his journey to recovery.
As you can imagine, this has been a very difficult time for Ralphy's wife Holly. She is very appreciative of all the efforts, thoughts and prayers and wants to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of her heart for all the love and support .
As friends of Ralphy and Holly, we are humbly appealing to you to help raise funds that are much needed by them right now. Holly needs to focus on getting Ralphy better and will need the assistance while she navigates these trying times. She has been steadfastly by his side and has had to take time off work to do so. We are appealing to your generosity to help bridge the gap as she helps in all ways she can to nurture our boy back to health.
The road to recovery will be a long one, but we know that Ralphy would have done this for any one of us. So let us dig deep and help out our brother and sister in this time of need.
