My name is Connor Mailey Hannard. I am an enthusiastic, hard-working young man who has been living, studying and working in Sydney with my family for the last eight years. I have taken the initiative to reach out to family, friends and members of my community here through my Go Fund Me website. I appreciate your time in reading my story and thank you for your support and any contribution you may be able to make.
For the first fifteen years of my life, I found myself in multiple different countries as my family followed work, leading me from Switzerland, to France, to Singapore, and now to Australia, and it is in Australia that I have found my home.
Australia is a wonderful country filled with wonderful people, and its where I have found some of the best friends and experiences that I have ever had, and I don't want it to end.
My parents settled in Sydney with the promise of permanent residency for all of us, so we could settle here permanently and make Australia our forever home.
Unfortunately, the company my father works for have not kept their promise of sponsoring us for permanent residency.
After months of anguish and every avenue explored, we are facing the fact that this is no longer a possibility and I will no longer be able to reside here from the 24th of February.
That is why I am going back to uni, study for my Bachelors of 3D Art and Animation so I can continue to live here on a student visa. Upon graduation, I can self-sponsor my own permanent residency, which will lead to becoming the Australian I have become in my heart.
I can't afford the fees by myself. I'm not able to get HECS or VetFee help, and I am still paying off the $35,000 cost of the first two years of my previous diploma in screen and media. I am not able to extend my loan, and my family is in no position to help finance my bachelors degree.
I have made my life here in Australia and though Irish-born, Europe is not my home. I wish to continue to study here and enjoy the life I have established and make my way in my studies and my life here in an industry I am passionate about and where there is a bright future.
