Bring Back the AHS Mask Mandate

Donation protected
Hi, my name is David Keegan. I'm a family doctor and professor of family medicine.

I'm fundraising for a court case to bring back universal masking to Alberta Health Services's healthcare facilities.

COVID-19 is real, it's still here, and it's airborne. It spreads like smoke.

If everyone masks, it keeps our shared air cleaner. Now that the mask mandate has been dropped lots of people are not wearing masks. This will lead to more COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2) in the air, which will cause more people to catch it.

Healthcare facilities should be the SAFEST places for people. There are many people with complex medical conditions and disabilities which put them at increased risk of severe COVID outcomes. I care for them and I'm one of them.

Removing the masking mandate means that our patients are exposed to greater COVID risk. Wearing a mask yourself isn't enough - when everyone masks, it's much harder for COVID to spread.

AHS dropped the mask mandate for health facilities on Monday, June 19, 2023. This is despite the fact that COVID continues to mutate and continues to kill & disable people.

This decision is dangerous.

I have already personally contributed $3000 to pay for legal fees to bring universal masking back to AHS healthcare facilities. I ask you to join me.

The feels will also pay for an arms-length accounting firm to track how I disburse these fees. Once I have those details, I will share them.

I am proud to serve Albertans as a family doctor. Let's work together to protect our air and protect all of our lives.

As I have been updating, there have been a lot of complexities and challenges to this legal action. However, the funding is flowing today to the law firm which will be representing me.

Donations made go first to GoFundMe, then to an account I have set up exclusively for this action, and then to the law firm's trust account. I am seeking to not have any funding sitting in my account. While it is highly unlikely we will see a surplus when everything in my action to bring back masks has been completed, if that happens, such surplus funds would stay in the law firm's trust account and be used to fund similar disability/health rights legal actions.
