Keep Melissa Smiling

In late March 2017, Melissa Wells was diagnosed with Metastatic Uterine Carcinosarcoma Stage IV Grade 3. There is currently no standard therapy for patients with stage IV disease. These patients should be entered an ongoing clinical trial. Melissa has started Chemotherapy, receiving chemo every 21 days. She successfully has had two treatments so far. Here is where you can come in and help. Melissa continues to work as a CNA at a local nursing home to keep the health insurance she desperately needs. Each chemo treatment costs her $125 out of pocket, each doctor visit costs $40-$75, and each hospital stay costs $150-$3000. With your help, we can at the very least help ease the financial stress of her battle with cancer. We may not be able to fight it for her, but could help alleviate the stresses of her medical bills. No one should be going through chemo and stressing about how to pay for treatments or dreading that this hospital stay is going to last longer than 24 hours and the payment jumps into the hundreds or thousands. Melissa has been accepted to Roswell to undergo targeted therapy, which can add a substantial amount to her life expectancy but with that adds more money, her insurance will cover 75% of the cost and she is left with 25% out of pocket expense. Which averages $7000/per month or $65,000/per year. Targeted cancer therapies work on two-thirds of all US cancer patients, most of them taking intravenous or oral medication survive at least 5 years after the diagnosis. Please help her out with the financial burden.
