Keep Luke and Betty Safe

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lucas. I’m a 21 year old transgender non-binary person who uses he/they pronouns. I’m also writing this on behalf of my platonic partner, Betty; a 37 year old trans femme person who uses she/they pronouns. Both of us suffer from complex ptsd, chronic pain, and are autistic. I’m living in my van, struggling to get by each day, and Betty and I are both concerned that she will have to stay in the van with me if we can’t figure something else out. For some more context.. I moved from South Dakota to Massachusetts in late June of 2021 in hopes for a better quality of life after enduring abuse and insecure housing for the two years prior. I soon found out that Betty was living with an abuser, and I was kicked out after confronting her abuser. I’ve lived in the van that I bought (on emergency terms) since winter, with very few chances to do basic things such as showering, having a warm meal (during winter that was the hardest) and washing my hands, along with people constantly being suspicious of me (even going as far as calling the cops or having me towed) when all I’m trying to do is survive. Betty has been the one to keep me fed and prevent me from dying in a hot or freezing-cold van. As you can imagine, this has been very difficult for Betty too, as she has been with me through thick and thin and is still living with her abuser, who provokes and triggers Betty every single day. Both of us are not sure how we’re going to survive very much longer. We’re exhausted, especially tired of living in financial insecurity, ptsd triggers, and unsafe environments.

Fundraiser update as of September 29, 2022: we are currently staying in SD, in a place neither of us want to be due to not feeling safe or having health insurance. We’ve been staying with my three youngest sisters and their mom, who is also transgender. This house is very triggering as we are subject to hearing emotional outbursts from the other recovering abuse survivors, having to keep our food hidden in our room so we have things to eat, and personally it brings up PTSD flashbacks constantly because it’s the house I was abused in as a child. We have been trying to recover from escaping our last situation, but we only feel worse being here, and our only option to get better is to go somewhere else. Along with living in this situation, I have been asked to do something I’ve wanted to do so badly: defend my little sisters’ legal right to safety from our abusive birth giver.
