Keep Her In School Campaign

In rural Zambia, girls miss school because of difficulty managing menstrual periods without sanitary supplies and facilities (no running water in some schools). With poverty as high as 78%, girls cannot afford sanitary pads that cost about $1 for a pack of eight. A report by UNICEF child advocacy agency concluded that school attendance for girls becomes less consistent after fifth grade because the girls are compelled to remain at home while on their period. As a result, some girls drop out of school, which leads to early child marriages as the only option, and fifth grade becomes the highest level of achievement. 

For many girls in rural schools, using sanitary pads is a far-fetched dream.
