Keep Colchester Reading
Donation protected
Keep Colchester Reading is a project I have started for this Christmas to provide every child and family with a book(s) this Christmas.
The benefits of reading are well known. Children who begin reading it an early age and read regularly severely outperform children who do not. Reading helps improve speech and communication, which in turn increases confidence. With a tough winter ahead this project aims to get the whole family reading. It's also open to just adults who may be going through a tough time.
In adults reading improves mental health and cognitive abilities as well as helping to fight back against diseases like alzheimer's.
Funds will go to:
Bookmarks for each book - £32.50 for 500 with three designs to print
Wrapping paper and labels - Estimated at over £80
Purchasing new books
Any new books purchased will be purchased from local independent bookstores: Red Lion Books and the Wivenhoe Bookshop: so your money will help local businesses as well as provide books to a family that would have gone without.
Any excess would be spent on new books or rolled over for the Easter holidays if the scheme is a success.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
