As my sister Carly’s ALS progresses and more muscles are affected, getting around and accomplishing everyday tasks has become increasingly difficult. To help keep moving and maintain her quality of life, Carly will begin to use a power wheelchair. As you can imagine, that brings many challenges.
She'll be selling her car to purchase a specialized van with wheelchair ramps and lifts, and modified driving controls. With a cost of $50,000-$75,000 not covered by health insurance, we're hoping to help alleviate this burden.
This purchase will keep some normalcy in Carly's life and not have to ride with a public ambulette van or worse - be completely confined to the house. We won’t let that happen!
With your generosity, a wheelchair accessible van will allow Carly to do things we all take for granted. She’ll get to go to activities at the kid’s school, to and from appointments, and remain active with family and friends.
