Keep Alena an Aggie

So … who is Alena?

Well, she's the youngest of 5 from a great family right out of Salt Lake County. Alena graduated from Cyprus High School in 2019. She grew up in a single mother household where she duct-taped shoes and backpacks and learned to be frugal.

In high school, she was working at Arctic Circle. She quickly climbed the ladder to become a manager. After graduating, she decided to study Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University. So she was off to Logan that summer. She was still working at Arctic Circle; she just transferred locations.

Things have been … challenging. As they are, for most college students. 2020 kind of exacerbated things and we find ourselves in need of your help to make sure that she can remain an Aggie at Utah State University. We as a family have all pulled together to help her along her educational journey. At this time the challenge is great and she’s in need of about $2,500 as of December 4, 2020 or she will be forced to defer her education.

She needs $1,730 for her housing and $1,150 for her meal plan. Her tuition alone is $3,365.95 as she is in the science field in the pre-vet program. After applying for FAFSA and asking her family for help, she is still in need of $2,439.72 exactly to bring her current for fall semester. We also want to help her get ahead for spring semester.

This is a 20 year old girl who's getting up at 3:00 AM to go milk cows. Who does that? Alena does that. Some days, it's wake up, milk cows from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Then back to bed, wake up again at 10:00, homework, household chores, cook dinner, more homework and back to bed by midnight. Oh yeah! Class is at 7:30 AM the next day.

On top of all this, Alena also works for a living. She puts in hours at Wits End Dairy in Wellsville. As well as IBEX Preclinical Research. So this girl has a side-hustle ... for her side-hustle. Alena says, "every day I learn something new at this job and will continuously gain valuable experience and comfortability with various species of animals.”

None of this is intended to sound like we're after your pity. There's plenty of people who have it a lot rougher than we do. Alena understands that. So do all of us who are putting this campaign together, but it's like we said, we need your help. We are not asking for handouts, we're asking for help for Alena's success.

So... why should you help? This is a woman, who will use every advantage that she's given to help create a better future for everyone. Helping Alena complete her education is kind of like, investing in your own future too. All of our futures, really. Every penny that you donate will go toward tuition, housing, and food. None of this will be spent on unnecessary luxuries.
