Dear Friends, Family and Kind Supporters,

July 19th marks the beginning of a very long road for Keaton both physically and psychologically.   As his mother Jasmine stated so well on her Facebook page , " He had his angels with him.  Those of you that know Kee know that he is tough, determined and courageous.  He will need all your love and support and prayers."

I am Keaton Toney's grandmother.   As most of you already know, he was airlifted to Halifax Sunday following a serious accident on his dirt bike.  It is every parent and extended family's greatest fear that one of our loved ones will be hurt - it is the price we pay when we love.

Keaton's Injuries

Kee has sustained many injuries including broken ribs, neck and back as well as a collapsed lung. Due to the severity of the injury to his left leg it was necessary to amputate it below the knee in order to save his life.   I have tried to rewrite that sentence so many different ways but there is no way to do it that doesn't bring instant tears to my eyes.  I focus on "in order to save his life" and the tears dry.

As most of you can only imagine, including myself,  this poses so many new challenges for an active 19 year old young adult.   He will require access to the best available services and prosthesis for him to live his life to its full potential.  The cost of prosthetics will be significant and an ongoing financial burden.

The specialist at the QEII said that he will be hospitalized for 3 - 6 months.  He is a fighter and was just released from ICU yesterday.  We all cannot believe how truly lucky we are to have him still here with us.  Gratitude to our higher being for this.

Due to Covid -19 ,  it has been difficult to adhere to hospital policies but his mother Jasmine and also his Aunt Hailey have been able to be by his side through-out his hospitalization.  To date they have  stayed in hospital with him (against the rules) but are now staying in a nearby hotel.   This is an expense that adds up quickly and we are looking for an alternative solution.

Keaton has been an independent soul from the beginning of his life.  He pretty much needed the front door to be locked from the outside to discourage him from taking on life full throttle.  He has feared very little and his lack of fear has made us all very fearful.  We have no doubt that this character quality will serve to be his best asset now as he conquers every obstacle that he finds in his path.

I am not a stranger to the horse community and remember it to be a camaraderie of like-minded people who possess the same love for life and equines.  I have never known them not to rally together in time of need.   These past five months have challenged us all to the beyond.  If you cannot contribute financially please know that your prayers are valued even more.  Positive thoughts into the Universe!

T H A N K   Y O U

Had it not been for the kindest Samaritan who was the first on the scene and quickly applied a tourniquet we truly fear what the outcome would have been.  I would love to name you but would not do so without your permission - I cannot possibly leave you out.  In this day and age where people tend to look the other way,  you chose to selflessly involve yourself (from what I hear you instinctively acted and that is a true person of character).   No words can express the magnitude of our gratitude.

Thank you to the paramedics who truly possess one of the most difficult jobs and oftentimes pay the price for it.  Namaste

We thank the attending staff in Halifax who are cared for Keaton and continue to do so.

Thanks so much to all of you who have showed your support.  Keaton has been reading your comments on Facebook and appreciates people reaching out to him on Messenger.  There is really no substitute for supportive friends and family and for knowing how many people are routing for him.
