My name is Sarah Riggins, and my fiance and I are very close friends with Michael in the the Wilmington area. As many of you know, Mike was involved in a severe car accident on the night of April 12th, 2016. He has severe brain trauma on his right side and as of today, he has been placed on a ventilator to help him breathe. He has been put under a medically induced coma to refrain him from waking and moving his head or neck. Below is one of the most recent updates from his sister, Carey: "He is still not resonding to the stimuli tests and has overnight started using the ventilator more to breathe. We did find out that they did a CT scan yesterday and found that more than half of his brain is dead. Seeing the swelling is so terribly bad, and we are hoping that the damage seen on the CT is swelling and not actual brain damage. For today and tonight, they want him to rest as stimulus free as possible. They are thinking that the medically induced coma may be hindering some of the responses to the stimuli tests, so starting in the morning that they are going to ease him out of the coma, run some tests and hopefully deliver us some amazing news. Just keep praying, hoping and wishing for us to be delivered a miracle". Mike is a wonderful son, brother, cousin, friend, and the most amazing father to his beautiful daughter Emmersyn. She is the light of his life and they have such an unbreakable bond. Mike is one of the most selfless people I know, and we all know he is a fighter.
I come to you today, asking for help to support this strong family. Anything amount can help. This is one way we can relieve some of the financial burden put on Michael's family, so that they can continue to focus solely on their son during this time. Even though I haven't met the majority of Mike's family, his family is my family right now. Over the years, Mike has become a part of our family and that bond will never be broken.
