Help Send Me to College!

My expected family contribution for college suddenly evaporated due to my nana's long term illness. I'm trying to hang onto my goal of attending my dream college 2017-2021.

***********************************************************

I applied early decision to Hobart and William Smith at the beginning of the 2016 school year.  I knew that HWS was where I wanted to go so this seemed like an easy choice for me. HWS is my dream school and I jumped through every hoop to make it work. This included challenging myself academically and participating in extracurricular activities throughout high school. To name a few: I participated on the Varsity tennis team for three years, student council for four years, The Preserve our Planet Club, The Spanish Club, and was inducted into the National Honor society during my senior year. Outside of school I worked at the Guilford Country Store steadily for two years and have volunteered for a variety of different organizations. My parents moved to Vermont twenty-six years ago and decided to live completely off-the-grid.They built our humble home slowly while working and raising four children. My dad is a self employed carpenter and my mom works at our local Country store so finances have always been a struggle for my family. I am the first out of my siblings to leave and attend a four year college. My family and I both agreed that HWS was a long shot but because I was so in love with the school we did everything in our power to make it work financially. We requested that the school sends us an estimate of our financial aid package and with help from my grandmother the package seemed doable. Because of this promise I made a huge decision to apply to Hobart and William Smith early decision. I was accepted to HWS with a large scholarship and a decent financial aid package that included student loans but not enough to cover as much as we need. I enrolled knowing that my grandmother could cover the gap and make my dream of attending this school come true. A couple months after I committed my grandmother’s financial contribution fell through when she broke her back as well as her hip; she needs 24/7 care and she is no longer able to pay the gap money. I am attempting to raise enough money to cover this gap that she was going to pay.  My goal is to raise 15,000 dollars for the 2017/2018 school year. This will help me pay for tuition, room and board, books and some living expenses. I am planning on doing work study throughout the year also.

Thank you so much for whatever you can contribute, with your support I will be able to attend my dream school!
