My name is Katelynn, and this Saturday 10/10 will be my husband's and my's 5th wedding anniversary. If you would have asked us then where we saw ourselves in 5 years, the answer would have been so much different than reality is today.
It's been a full year now since my husband lost his job. He used to work as an electrician and his employer just didn't have enough work to go around. We struggled, but we managed to make the rent payment for September. October however was a different story. We tried to save enough of my paychecks to make that rent payment, but we couldn't make it stretch enough. We were two weeks past due on rent when our complex gave us the ultimatum. Remove our things within three days or they would start the eviction process. It was then I finally broke down and called my parents. I didn't know what to do. We were looking at being homeless, living out of our cars with a dog and two cats.
My parents asked us to please come home. They welcomed us and our animals into their home with open arms. I can't express how blessed we are. To have such loving parents, to not have been on the streets, to not have had to surrender our pets. We are so blessed that I feel guilty asking for more.
It's been a year since then. My husband and I have paid off the overdue tickets, the back owed bill payments, the medical bills, and all of our credit cards. We've worked so hard to get our finances straightened out and our hard work is paying off. We've agreed that buying a home of our own would be the better decision for us, seeing as we could have a mortgage payment less than half of how much we used to pay in rent. And although my parents have been amazing, it's time for us to stand on our own again.
All funds raised in this campaign will go towards a down payment for that house. I would be forever grateful for any help you might be able to give. I want to be able to give my parents their house back. I want to give my dog the yard he deserves. I'm ready to move on with my life.
