Hello Friends,
I will be embarking on a bicycle trip accross the country this summer (June-August) dedicated to fund 1) a "Med Trek" in Nepal that I will be joining this fall where a group of doctors/dentists provide services to the rural villages surounding Kathmandu and 2) additional volunteer work with Mitrata Nepal and the impoverished children that they work with - aiming to improve their quality of life and educational opportunities. I will be working to earn money in my spare time until graduation, and will be seeking out other forms of scholarship wherever I can. Beyond this, any and all donations will go an extremely long way and if I could raise $2000 by the end of June via gofundme, these trips would be all the more feasible!
I am beyond excited for both of these trips. The bicycle trip will be an amazing way to see this beautiful country before finishing up med school applications, interviews and heading to Nepal. The trip to Nepal will provide career-relevant experience such as global healthcare and general medicine that will be of great service to me going into this field. I would be beyond thankful for any help you could provide.
Trip 1) Cross country bicycle trip this summer: June - August. Minimum estimated cost = $1500
Trip 2) “Med Trek” in Nepal serving rural villages surrounding Kathmandu subsequently followed by volunteer work with Mitrata-Nepal for Children, a non-profit with whom I've worked with in the past that aims to develop impoverished Nepali children’s educations and quality of life: October – November. Minimum estimated cost = $2000 + flights
Additional Info:
1) I will be starting in Boston and ending in San Francisco – covering 4,000 miles – alone at times, and accompanied by a couple friends at others. I have been cutting costs everywhere possible, borrowing gear or buying used, planning for lots of peanut butter sandwiches and lentils, camping and cooking rather than staying in motels and buying restaurant food, doing my own bicycle maintenance, etc.
2) After having raised $1500 for Mitrata-Nepal last year, I climbed Mt. Rainier with other donors and met the founders of Karma-Thalo, another non-profit organization that brings dentists, doctors, and lots of medical supplies on a Med-Trek through the rural villages of Nepal. I will be raising money (goal= $2000) for Karma-Thalo and then going on their trek in October for a few weeks and then staying in Kathmandu, Nepal to work with the children that Mitrata-Nepal serves for another month. My role with these children has not yet been determined and it may involve anything from housing construction, to education in language or sanitation, to other kinds of mentoring – whatever Mitrata and their children are most in need of at the time.
Thank you for reading!
