Keep warm this winter!

I’m aware this is a bit of a lengthy read but I’m my opinion it’s very worth the time!

Tonight, I was scrolling through social media and I stumbled upon a soap actor I follow who tweeted a fantastic idea of his. His twitter is @RorySpeed if you want to check it out, but his goal this winter is to raise money for people who cannot afford their heating. He started a local go fund me for Liverpool, where he can directly split the money raised onto meter sticks and see exactly where he’s making the difference.

What a genius idea.

I donated, then walked my dog in cold Aberdeen. I can’t imagine on snowy nights with temps of -7, having to calculate if I can, and genuinely need to put the heating on.

Now clearly I’m not Rory Speed, I’m not famous, and I don’t have the following that he has. But I do have some pretty generous friends, family and colleagues and I know I live in a community that likes to help. If you want to, and can afford to, please donate even pennies. Every little helps.

The plan is to leave it running to raise as much as we can, withdrawing the money & placing it on meter sticks/ food banks/ etc.

If we raise £50 I’ll stand outside Mccolls and put £50 on the first person who needs it, if we raise more we can find more efficient ways to give people who need it, a helping hand.

My worry is that some won’t think this will be going towards a genuine cause, which is why I will follow in Rory Speeds footsteps and target meter sticks as there is always proof of purchase and a receipt to go with it so you can see just how many people you have helped.

When I called my sister to ask if this was a bad idea, and voiced being scared it would be embarrassing if it flopped. She said ‘if everyone thought like that, then no change would occur’.
