A week ago our lives changed forever as they told me my daughter had a 20% chance of making it...Kayla complained that her back was hurting and then got to the point where she couldn't walk. I begged and pleaded with her to go to the dr, but being as stubborn as she is, she refused. We thought, okay, bad back. It will get better with rest, some heat, ice, and Aleve. Well, last Friday, I came home from work, and she was yellow. We had to carry her into the car to get to the hospital as she couldn't walk. Low and behold, she developed sepsis from pneumonia and another bacterial infection. This put her body in septic shock. In addition, the infection went to her heart which is called endocarditis. She showed no signs besides her back being in terrible pain up until this point. Today, she is doing a bit better. Her numbers are going in a positive direction. Her kidneys seem to be functioning better. Her lungs and breathing are still not where they need to be, but that takes time. She is still sedated and on a ventilator, which they are moving in the direction to get her off of within a day or two. With time, we will know if she needs a valve replacement as the infection on her heart may require that. The doctor just told me that she is stable and will most likely make it through this. There is still a small chance if anything happening, but things are looking a lot more positive. She will be in the hospital for at least six weeks, but that is a small price to pay.
