Kayla and kids

Paws in the Classroom is a non-profit focused on teaching adults and children about dog body language and bite prevention, positive reinforcement techniques for all animals, and humane education. We provide community and local shelter/rescue support whenever possible. Our goal is to teach compassion for animals and raise the next generation of animal rescuers! One of our programs is called the "Puppy Project" where we take in a rescue mom and her babies and raise them with proper care, socialization, and enrichment. This project not only helps these dogs in need but also allows the community to be a part of the important early socialization, and promote the human/animal bond and compassion for dogs.

Kayla was rescued from Montville Animal Control from an emergency situation and needed a place to go with her 6 babies. Of course we could not say no, so we took her and her babies in that day! Kayla is a great mom but didnt come from the best circumstances so she came with some health issues that needed to be addressed. We brought her to the vet and got her on antibiotics and food that will help her skin and coat. She was not feeling her best and stopped nursing her babies so we had to resort to bottle feeding and supplementing them with gruel. These unexpected vet bills are adding up and we still need to get Kayla spayed and fully vaccinated. We are so thankful for our community and the donations of towels, sheets, blankets, toys, we have already recieved!
