Hi Everyone!! My name is Kaycie, I'm a 23 year old black trans woman living in The Bronx (NY). Last June a day after my 22nd
birthday I unsuccessfully tried to take my own life which led me down a year long path of introspection and self realization. After being hospitalized at New York Presbyterian I decided to come out to my family and friends as transgender. Though I would never take back any part of my coming out it did lead to my employer firing me from a company I spent 3 years helping build from nothing. By November 2019 I was back at square one with no means of supporting myself let alone transition costs. I ended up working for a not for profit company that provides day care for children 1-5 years old and it truly is one of the most welcoming places I've ever had the opportunity of working at. Though things have certainly been hard with Covid-19 forcing the needed closures of program's like the one I work for, I finally feel I'm on stable enough ground to continue with my transition. My physician at Callen Lorde has helped me get into contact with some great surgeons in New York City to see how much my FFS (Facial Feminization Surgery) will cost. Unfortunately these aren't procedures I can get done with just insurance so I'm making this gofundme to hopefully help cover some if not all of the costs of FFS. A lot of these funds will now be put towards HRT because my insurance keeps raising the price I'm not sure what else to put here but if you can donate or share I can't even put into words how much it would mean to me so that I can finally feel like myself instead of staring into a dysphoria inducing mirror.
