Samuel's Dyslexia Camp

Recently Samuel was accepted into a training program especially geared toward kids with Dyslexia. The program is in St. George, UT and runs from 9:00-4:00 for 5 days, with an evaluation session on day 6. Dyslexia has been a huge challenge for Samuel in his life and we are ecstatic to have this opportunity!
However, the training is rather pricey! The cost for this 6 day session and year long follow up & re-orientation, as needed, is $3000 + travel expenses.
We have spoken to the facilitator in St. George, and feel confident that this will be a life changing experience for Samuel. Most students who attend this training jump 4-5 reading levels in the 5 days of class and continue to jump as the year progresses! His progress will be evaluated on the Wed. of his training, to make sure he is achieving the expected results. Currently, Samuel is in 9th grade and is on about a 3rd grade reading level, at best! He loves reading, despite his challenges and the desire to become a better reader is there! We often take turns reading just to give him a break from the tedious task.
I vividly remember an experience he had a little over a year ago. He had wanted the Spider wick Chronicles for some time. When he received the set he was so excited! He took them to his room and made a spot for them on his bookshelf. A few days later he asked if he could go read for a while. I happily told him, “yes!” After a while he came out of his room, looking completely defeated! When I asked what the matter was, he replied “Mom, I want to read this book… but there are SO many words!” He had read only a few pages and he felt like such a failure.
This is a fun, low pressure, but highly effective program developed by Dr. Ron Davis, author of “The Gift of Dyslexia”. Again, we feel very excited and blessed to have been accepted into this training!
In order to raise the needed funds, we have been running several fundraisers and Samuel has been taking on other opportunities to earn the funds. However, we hope to get him into his class over Spring Break, in March, and we are running out of time!
Someone recently told me about the gofundme program and suggested that we post our need here. We are planning to cut costs by staying with friends and family, but I am afraid that we are still going to come up short.
Anything offered will be accepted with our deepest gratitude! Samuel will also be sending a handmade thank you gift and personalized card for your donation!
