Kavika’s Hero Crusade

Donation protected
Please help the Scanlan family by being heroes for sweet Kavika. There is nothing worse than a suffering child. And this boy and his family are doing all they can to be strong, keep faith and stay positive.

Here is their story as told by Kavika’s mom, Brandie. Please donate if you feel compelled.

This past Wednesday night , Kavika had to take a trip to the ER. He was shivering uncontrollably for 3 hours with no fever. By the time they checked him in he had a fever of 104. They gave him some Tylenol and sent us home. The following day I took him to his regular pediatrician because something didn’t seem right. They did blood work and said they would call. Friday morning they called and told me I needed to take him to the hospital immediately that he has bacteremia (bacteria infection in the blood) and Infective endocarditis (bacteria infection in his heart valves). We went to a local hospital and were transferred to San Diego where they are better equipped to handle the situation.

As of today, Sunday, October 15th his lab work came back more elevated than they were at admission. This means things are not improving as of today. They are currently coming up with a new plan and changing his antibiotics. Kavika has an artificial heart valve and they are afraid it may have been damaged by the infection. We are waiting for the cardiologist to review his echocardiogram to find out if it is ok. He is still spiking high fevers and Is very nauseous. They gave him some nausea medicine and he ate a little. We are hoping it stays down.

We are being told that he has a long road ahead of him at a minimum of six weeks.

A little background on Kavika,
He was born with a genetics defect called DiGeorge Syndrome. He has had 5 heart surgeries and about 3 other surgeries. He has a compromised immune system as well. He is my fighter and my hero! He is the strongest kiddo I know!

Thank you for taking the time to read Kavika’s story. As you can imagine, the medical expenses stack up pretty quickly and the Scanlan’s could really use a little help. This of you who know this family know they are always FIRST to offer their help, talents, time and prayers for all of us. They would never ask, but were kind enough to let me ask on their behalf.

We are with you, Kavika!!!
