Katy's 30km Breast Cancer Support

Once again I will be walking 30km to help cancer patients, especially poignant in Pink October. Breast Cancer Awareness.

In November 2015 breast cancer invited itself into my life and turned my world upside down. After fighting for 11 months on a journey that took me through surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and curie-therapy I had an overwhelming desire to give something back.
I gave myself a mission - to buy an end of treatment Bravery Bell for my chemo unit at St Louis hospital in Paris. I lived 30km (18.6 miles)  from the hospital so I thought it would be symbolic to walk that same distance to raise money for the bell.
In November 2016, just 5 months after ending my treatment I walked the 30km (18.6 miles)distance with two amazing friends arriving to a warm welcome at the hospital and we raised more money than I ever expected.
I founded the charity 'Les Trefles du Coeur'.

I repeated the 30km in 2017 and raised more funds and continue to support the Breast Cancer unit. 
On October 7th this year 2018 I am healthier and happier than ever and enjoying a new life in USA. But I continue to run the charity and support the Breast Cancer unit at St Louis in Paris. I'm going to repeat the 30 km (18.6 miles) walk to the hospital and hope that you will support the charity by donating or sponsoring me. The charity's work is greatly appreciated by all the patients we have helped so far but we need funds.

We are a charity based just outside of Paris, France. 'Les Trefles' means 'Clover' and 'du Coeur' means 'of the heart' both iconic symbols of love and luck. Our overall mission is to provide support and comfort to cancer patients and introduce the 'Bravery Bell' to French hospitals.
The Bravery Bell
Our aim is to place Bravery Bells in all cancer units in France and introduce the tradition of ringing the bell at the end of treatment. This is a custom in USA and helps patients celebrate their achievement of completing treatment whatever the stage of the disease. 
Offering Comfort
We provide comfort kits to patients during chemotherapy to help ease this difficult journey.
The charity presented the very first Bravery Bell in France to the Centre des Maladies des Seins, at the St Louis Hospital in Paris where Katy was treated. She was honoured to be the first patient to symbolically ring the bell during the inauguration ceremony in April 2017 in the presence of the medical and management staff.
Word began to spread and 2 other bells were acquired and offered to other units within the hospital, another was presented to the unit where Katy received her radiotherapy
treatment at L'Institut de Cancérologie de Seine et Marne, Hôpital de Jossigny.
Since then the sound of these bells continues to resonate throughout the corridors as patients celebrate their achievements and feedback from staff and patients has been overwhelmingly positive.
In addition to the bells, Les Trefles du Coeur has been supporting the chemo unit for breast cancer in St Louis Hospital by providing items and activities to help ease the treatment phase for patients. These include donating stylish and comfortable headcovers for distribution to women experiencing hair loss, providing board games and activities to help pass the time during treatment, tea to alleiviate nausea, offering protective nail varnish for patients at risk of severe nail damage due to the chemicals and providing a basic care kit for all patients facing chemotherapy.

After 6 months of existing we have donated:
4 Bravery Bells, 900 Chemo Kits, 250 Headcovers, 50 Nail Kits, 10 Activity Boxes.
All the money we receive goes towards purchasing the Bravery Bells and items that offer comfort to patients. We have negotiated great deals with providers of head covers, nail care kits and Chemo kits. The charity has no overheads so every penny you donate goes to help make cancer a little bit bearable for many patients. Nearly 1000 patients have so far benefitted from our donations and many patients have rung bells in French hospitals. Help us reach our goal of making that many more.
