Kat's Opera Career

Donation protected
Family, friends, and Lovers of the Arts,

If you don’t know me, my name is Kat. Hi!

I am a singer, actress, dancer, musician. If it's artistic, odds are, I’ve done it. And I am an artist who has finally decided to get serious about her life, her career, her art, and her destiny. Now, I am pursuing my heart, my passion: Opera. (Yes, I know, I chose the easiest of all the artforms.)

When I was eleven, my music teacher in grade school told my mom that I had an incredibly powerful voice and gave me a solo in our school musical. I will never forget singing on stage and feeling "HOME".  But when I performed, the other kids made fun of me because my voice shook. I didn't sing again for ten years.

When I finally got the nerve to sing again, it was my senior year of college, and I learned there was a word for the shake in my voice: vibrato. My teacher told me had a voice for opera. Knowing I'd truly found my passion and my purpose, I threw myself into studying and singing. It felt right to be back "Home" on stage. But then I had what I thought was another setback. My teacher informed me I may have the voice of a Dramatic Soprano, and at twenty-one, my voice would not mature for another TEN years.

So, once again, I turned on my first love, thinking that ten years was too long to wait. I have spent the last decade pursuing other music, dance, acting, and burlesque, but I have always been waiting for circumstances to be "perfect" before I could focus on my true passion.

After suddenly losing my 27 year old brother James this year, I now know that life needs to be LIVED and I cannot live a life knowing that I did not do everything I could to pursue this passion. If I am going to become the singer of my dreams, I must seize the opportunity now.

So, this is my life right now. I work 36 hours a week bartending at an Italian restaurant next to the LA Opera House, which I so cleverly orchestrated. (Muahaha.) The rest of my time is spent learning Italian, learning French, taking lessons with the top teachers and coaches in Los Angeles, working for hours upon hours on vocal exercises and arias, oh and sleeping, when I can!

Now, I have the once in a lifetime opportunity to study at a highly coveted intensive opera course in December with one of the best teachers in the United States, Victoria Livengood.

While there for two weeks, I will be training with her for two hours a day and then another hour with a well-known coach from Juilliard, Arlene Schrut.

And that is why, friends, family and fellow Arts Lovers, I am asking for your help.

I am putting all of my time, money, and effort into making this dream a reality and I cannot do it alone. Anything you can offer would mean the world to me. No amount of help is too small.

Even if you have no money to offer, I will even gratefully and gladly accept prayers, good wishes, and positive energy. (But they don't make a GoFundMe for those.)

This is my life, my future, and I am so incredibly grateful for the love and support of all of my family and friends. Please help me find my way back "Home!"
