Katie's Fight against Cancer

Donation protected
My friend Katie is a 45 year old, lifelong single, working mom who was misdiagnosed in June 2014. During unrelated medical testing, a CT scan of her chest revealed a small nodule in her right breast, even after she had a negative Mammogram a month prior. An ultrasound was done to further evaluate the small lump and the doctors informed her it was simply a benign cyst.  About 4 months later, she felt the lump had severly grown in size and the area was very sore. Upon returning to the doctor, they decided to do a biopsy this time. A few days later, she had the heartbreaking results – Breast Cancer!

The lump had aggressively grown from a small nodule to the size of a walnut within 4 months. No time was wasted and after the biopsy the treatment plan changed from lumpectomy to a mastectomy of one breast. Within weeks, the surgery was done and the biopsy of the cancerous tumor came back as Stage II triple negative Breast Cancer.  Shortly thereafter, Chemotherapy was started.  Triple negative breast cancer is more aggressive and difficult to treat, so the Chemotherapy chosen is also very aggressive.

Katie has undergone her first Chemo treatment and now, 2 weeks later, her hair falls out in bunches and she has decided to have her head shaved in a few days, in time for the second treatment.

After the first treatment she had severe nausea and body pains. With each treatment, the effects will be increasingly harder to tolerate. Of course this results in missed times at work. All of her leave has been used up for the surgery and multiple doctor appointments. Any time she stays home now is leave without pay.  Being a single mom, this causes additional hardships and unnecessary worries during an already scary and uncertain time.

I have created this fundraiser so whoever knows and loves Katie or whoever may just be touched by her story can donate in order to ease the burden of medical bills, lack of income to pay day to day bills or just to show her we care and want to help in a time when most of us can just stand by, watch and feel helpless!

We love you Katie!!!  XOXOXOXO

Thank you kindly in advance for your donation. Every little bit will make a difference!
