Katie Patterson's Dental Treatment

This picture of my daughter, Katie Patterson, was taken in October 2013, about a year before she was finally diagnosed with hypogammaglobulinemia, a primary immunodeficiency. This basically means her immune system doesn’t operate properly because her body is unable to produce enough IgG and IgA antibodies to protect her from bacteria and viruses.
Katie has endured a lifetime of chronic upper and lower respiratory infections, autoimmunity and inflammation issues, bone and joint injuries, and extensive dental problems. Hospitalizations and surgeries have become more frequent over time. In the past two years alone, Katie has lost 11 teeth despite painstaking and expensive efforts to save them.
Katie’s dental team has warned that she will likely lose the rest of her teeth within the next several years and has recommended she have her remaining upper teeth extracted now and a permanent denture implanted. This treatment plan, for her upper teeth alone, will cost $23,000.
While we wait for her to receive the medication she needs to help her, Katie is in quarantine much of the time. She leaves the house only to go to her medical and dental appointments, spending much of her life essentially cut off from society. As you can imagine, her self-esteem is very low, and the added loss of her teeth has done nothing but magnify her pain. At this point, I am at a complete loss as to how I will manage to pay for Katie’s dental work on top of her regular, recurring medical expenses.
After much prayer and careful consideration, I am most humbly reaching out for your help. Will you please share Katie’s story with your friends?
