Katie's Fight Against Sarcoma
Donation protected
My sister, Katie Wintergerst, was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma on February 7, 2018. Sarcomas are rare cancers of the bone and connective tissue which have many subtypes as it can arise from a variety of tissue structures like bone, muscle, fat, nerves, fibrous tissue, blood vessels or deep skin tissue. Sarcoma represents 1% of all human cancers.
Katie has demonstrated strong commitment to her fight and family since diagnosis. Her treatment came in 3 phases: chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. She successfully completed 6 rounds of chemo, each requiring a 5 day hospital stay. After a month break she began radiation treatment. This treatment would last 5 weeks occurring every weekday during that time. Radiation was completed on September 5th. Now Katie will have surgery at Vanderbilt University on October 3rd to remove the tumor from her leg.
This is where I am asking for your support. Throughout this treatment Katie has shown incredible strength. She has continued to work full time and be an incredible Mom for her 2 young children. As Katie prepares for surgery the medical bills from treatment thus far have been flowing in and they will continue to come through surgery and future followup. It is also unknown how long she will have to be off work following surgery. I am asking for your support. Financial donations would be greatly appreciated to help to assist in paying medical expenses and travel to Nashville for surgery and doctor appointments. If a financial donation is not something you can do I ask you to keep her in your prayers as she undergoes surgery and begins recovery.
I thank you so much for your support.
