Katie Green Memorial Fund

No matter what - July 21st is a very hard day for our family - it is the four year anniversary of Katie taking her life. The loss has been unbearable for so many in our family. To make good of her death, we established a Katie Green Memorial Fund at Chase Bank to honor her life. We have donated to suicide prevention and want to continue to figure how best to do things in memory of Katie and her life. A few people asked me if we would do something like Joe's Award at the University of Kentucky for Katie. This fund will do that in Katie's memory. Last year friends and family donated the following:

Donated cookies to a family at Subway.

Donated wedding items and clothes, helped someone move

Donated 60 boxes of crayons to Kate's Kart

Paid for the car behind me at McDonald's

Bought ice cream for kids at Zesto

Took soda to a guy at Lowes working in the heat

Dropped off a Happ0y bag to a friend

Gave out sunflowers - Katie's favorite flower

Bought a back pack for a girl at Walmart

Food to a blessings box at church

Helped dad pick out school supplies for kindergarten

Gave money to a mom with 3 girls at Walmart for school supplies

Paid it backwards at Dunkin

Bought supper for a boy at Jersey Mike's

Bought dinner for a ve4t, bought crayons for Kate's Kart, helped fill little libraries

Bought ice cream

Gave money to rebuild a skating rink that caught fire

Did dogsitting (Katie would love this!)

Bought dog treats for dog's Katie loved

Donated dog and cat food to the Humane Society of FW

Paid adoption fee and bought new puppy needs for family

Filled little libraries and made one in memory of Katie in front of our house

Bought books for kids and young people at Barnes and Noble for an afternoon

Gave out gift certificates for Zesto

Bought stuffed dogs for two little boys who lost their dog

Did a haircut for a girl who needed one and dad couldn't afford

Bought supplies for teachers

Bought the entire basket of school supplies at Dollar Tree for them to give to kids in need

Donations to family which was incredible

A call out of the blue from a political contact who offered a place for our family to relax

AND WE KNOW THERE WAS EVEN MORE. People let us know what it meant for them to do this in honor of Katie and how much it meant - I loved that the givers got as as much out of it as the receivers.

In 2023 we donated to suicide prevention, the Humane Society (dog food) to honor her love of dogs, little libraries (for my book reader), ice cream for the neighbor kids (Cara and Katie fed theirs!), the Pit Bull Coalition (she always asked for something from them for Christmas), a family at the zoo, little kindnesses that would have meant something to Katie. Even Mike asked me last year if he could be a part of this next year. Well it's next year and since the 21st is on a Monday - we are going to do a weekend of "An Act of Katie Kindness" on the 19th thru the 21st. If you want to donate - if you want to do an act of kindness to remember our daughter - we want to turn something horrible into something good.
