Last week, my mother suffered a serious fall in her home in San Vito, a remote area of Costa Rica. This accident resulted in a broken hip and shoulder, necessitating immediate medical attention. Given the severity of her injuries and the limited medical facilities in San Vito, I had to travel to San Vito and evacuate her to San Jose, where she is now undergoing surgery.

The road to recovery for my 70-year-old mother is daunting. The medical procedures she needs - hip and shoulder surgeries, followed by intensive physical therapy - come with a significant cost, estimated at $50,000. This amount includes not only the medical expenses but also her living costs during the recovery period, which could be lengthy given her age and the nature of her injuries.

As her daughter, I have always admired her resilience and independence. But in this difficult time, we must ask for help.
