Karla & Maurice Powell

Hi everyone, my name is Karla Powell and as many of you know my husband and I are from New Bern and lost almost everything we own due to hurricane Florence. Our home is unlivable and on top of our household items my husband's car was flooded out as well. As if things couldn't get any worse Maurice's job has also been flooded and he has no idea when they will reopen which leaves us with only my income, which right now is none because I'm currently out on maternity leave. We have 4 children ages 16, 11, 4, and 6 weeks. We have applied for fema assistance but have no idea when that may be coming through. I've went back and forth about creating this page but finally put my pride to the side and decided to reach out for some help. Any donations we receive will go directly to our bank account and will be used to rebuild the life we worked so hard to create for our children. We plan to first use the funds to get into a new place and replace some of our essential belongings and hopefully purchase a cheap vehicle for my husband. As a family of 6, with our demanding schedules, having only one vehicle will not work for long. I know we are not the only ones in this predicament by a long shot and it has been amazing to see how our community has pulled together to help each other through the devastation.
