A few weeks ago, Karen started feeling "bad". Fatigued, back and stomach pain. She got to a point that she was not able to work. Her doctor was at a loss. He decided to send her for a CT Scan to help in his diagnosis. Karen was told that she would have to pay for the scan out of pocket. To her dismay, she was uninsured. She believed that her health coverage had rolled over into the new year just as it had every year previously. Because her employer sent the information in Spanish originally and then did not supply her with the information in English, she was not aware that she had to elect coverage. She has tried to get this corrected but as of today, that has not happened.
Karen went for the scan. Her doctor believed the scan showed a problem with her gallbladder and that was the source of her pain. He also indicated there was some concern with her liver. Karen was admitted to the hospital two days later. What she believed at most was going to be a surgery to remove her gallbladder turned into Cancer. After a week of testing, Karen was diagnosed with the very cancer her mom had battled 18 years ago. The day she started Chemo was the 18th anniversary of the day her mom lost her battle. She knows the battle that is in front of her but she knows to fight that battle she will need help.
Karen has incurred medical bills she cannot pay. She needs treatment that she cannot afford. She has daily living expenses that she can no longer work and pay. Karen is not pyhsically able to work while going through this. She can and will apply for disability but that can take months. Cancer will not wait.
This awesome woman has made such a difference in the lives of everyone she has met. She gives without being asked. She is firecely independent and ask nothing of anyone. She doesn't ask now. The people that love her are asking for help.
This lady has worked at the same job for 33 years. Raised 2 beautiful children. Brought so much joy to the lives of her family and friends. She is an inspiration to all that meet her.
It's time that we become her inspiration. It's time for us to help her fight this battle. It is time for us to help keep her Karen Strong!
