Karen's Fight With Breast Cancer
Donation protected
My mother, Karen power, is a 62 year old who is a personal daycare provider living in Ottawa, Ontario. She has recently been diagnosed with triple negative grade 3 breast cancer. During the recent weeks, she has gone from having surgery to remove a cancerous tumor inside a breast milk duct, to now requiring Chemotherapy and Radiation Treatment. These treatments and procedures are adding up to be over the course of 6 months, potentially longer.
As unfortunate and stressful as this news already is for our family, a grave concern is financial stability. Karen's first concern and thought after she received the news and cost breakdown was "How am I going to be able to pay for this?". Karen will not be able to keep taking care of her daycare children while going through her cancer treatment, and since she is self employed she does not have paid sick leave. On top of this, some drugs that she requires are not covered, such as Pegfilgrastim. This drug is required after each of her 4 chemotherapy treatments, and costs 1200$ per shot.
The main goal behind this fundraiser is to help ease my mothers stress while she is fighting her breast cancer. Having some financial safety, she would be able to get the rest she needs while undergoing treatment.
The funds raised from this campaign would go to the following:
-Rent
-Medication
-Groceries
-Daily living expenses
-Travel expenses
My mom is an amazing woman. She has a heart of gold and is a natural born caregiver, not just for her daycare kids but her family, friends and community. She has always taken care of us and it's now her turn to be taken care of.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to visit this page, it really does mean the world to me and my family. I understand that with the recent pandemic, financial hardships are upon many. If you live in the Ottawa, Ontario region and would like to contribute another way, my mothers friend Ashley Beadow has organized a local bottle drive. Ashley also owns a Car cleaning business and will be donating portions from each clean to Karen's cause.
