Kalkaska High School Unified Champion Disc Golf

Donation protected
As a special education teacher, it has always been my mission to try and include my students into the school culture as much as possible.  I truly believe in the power of relationships and inclusion: for all individuals involved. As I began teaching, the one thing I noticed was the lack of opportunity and involvement in regards to individuals with unique learning difficulties, especially in the school setting. This is when I knew I had to change that, at least in the school I work at. What a better way to promote inclusion and acceptance than through the sport I love, and many of us have come to love. The thing I love most about disc golf is the community and it's accepting nature. With that being said, I have received a $1,000 grant from the Special Olympics Unified Sports program to start a Unified Sports program at Kalkaska High School. My plan is to start a unified disc golf club. This disc golf club would consist of students with unique learning challenges, along with those who do not, playing disc golf together and building life long relationships. My motto is, "change the world through disc golf" and I believe with all my heart we can!

My plan is to purchase 9 used Chainstar baskets from the awesome Shea Abbgy at Great Lakes Discs for $1800. Obviously, the $1000 grant will not cover the remaining $800, so this is where I am asking for any gracious donations to help fund the remaining $800 needed to start our club and install 9 baskets for these kids to start using! Any donation is appreciated. And if you can't donate any money, go out and donate your time to grow the sport we all love!
