Kai's Wheels - Funding the Disability Gap
Donation protected
We would much prefer to help others than ask for help ourselves.
Today we have opened a gofundme page to raise funds, support and awareness for the funding gap that exists for disabled people to access necessary equipment, services and transport in Australia. As a family we are working with Disability Gap Australia to help fund a wheelchair accessible vehicle for Kai. All donations and funds raised in this current campaign will go directly towards a van for Kai. We greatly appreciate their support and the donations from our wonderful community.
Friends, Family and Members of the Community may be aware of Kai's disability and the high level of care he needs each day. Kai has cerebral palsy, which has paralysed his movement and made him dependent on a wheelchair. He is not able to walk, talk, eat, shower or toilet. Kai requires care 24/7. He also suffers from daily seizures and vision impairment. Despite these challenges, we are a happy and loving family who have always provided everything that Kai needs. We are currently working towards getting a suitable wheelchair accessible vehicle for his changing needs.
The NDIS recognises Kai’s changing mobility needs and has approved some funding for vehicle modifications, on the basis that we purchase a new van with certain specifications. Unfortunately, these requirements are significantly expensive, far exceeding our normal budget. The NDIS only contributes funding to modifications, not for purchasing a vehicle. There is often a funding gap between government assistance and the needs of disabled people. In our case we cannot currently afford the new vehicle.
As a family we have always supported organisations and charities for disabled and sick children. You may have seen Kai feature in major national charity campaigns before. Today we are asking more directly for your support.
Thank you Scott!
